When Did We Start Using Them?

Graduation diploma covers have been popular since the beginning of the twentieth century. Prior to that period, diplomas were generally just handed to individuals with a tied ribbon. The diplomas at that time were also very large, especially when compared with diplomas today.

Today we find that graduation diplomas have become much smaller. They are usually presented in a graduation diploma cover made of leather or vinyl. Graduation diploma covers made of leather became very popular at the beginning of the twentieth century.

A graduation diploma is the piece of paper that signifies that someone has completed a higher level of education. In the United States, graduation diplomas are given for graduation from grammar school, high school, college and post graduate school. Even little children graduating from Kindergarten are often presented with Kindergarten diplomas.

The graduation diploma cover given for Kindergarten diplomas as well as those for grammar school diplomas are usually made of vinyl. A diploma for graduating Kindergarten or Grammar school is today, usually small. Years ago, graduation from grammar school was considered significant as many children ended their education at this point. Today in the United States, a young person must stay in school until the age of 16 in most states. Although the grammar school graduation is no longer given the recognition it once was, it is still recognized as a milestone in the life of a young person.
