D’Amato’s Professional Career

Aside from being known as a former United States senator, Alphonse D’Amato has been involved in a number of private and political appointments. Included in his résumé are his previous roles as author, commentator, tax assessor, people’s administrator, consultant and fundraiser. Currently, he is the managing director for Park Strategies LLC and likewise manages Computer Associates. At Park Strategies, he takes advantage of his extensive experience in law and politics.

Prior to becoming senator, Al D’Amato started out in Nassau County, New York and served as a public administrator who managed assets of people who died without wills. By 1968, he was appointed tax assessor in the town of Hempstead, New York. He held on to the position until 1971, when he became town supervisor and later on served as the vice chairman of the board of supervisors of Nassau County from 1977 to 1980. He eventually left his positions when he decided to run for senator of New York. He won the seat and was in office from 1980 to 1998.

Throughout his senatorial career, Al D’Amato actively took part in fund raising affairs. As the former National Republican Senatorial Committee chairman, he raised a huge amount of $54 million. Some other fundraising efforts he did were for Ronald S. Lauder, the Republican mayoral candidate for New York, and William Powers, the New York State Chairman.

Apart from being a dedicated fundraiser, Al D’Amato is also a writer. He was a writer for George Magazine until 2001 and has written a book called “Power, Pasta, and Politics: The World According to Senator Al D’Amato.” The publication contains an introduction by former Mayor Ed Koch and a foreword written by former Senator Bob Dole.

Truly, Al D’Amato has a wide array of skills, all rooted from his experience in politics. These same skills are what he uses in his various efforts to perform consultancy and fundraising activities. He continues to be a powerful figure in politics, especially in the Republican Party.
