R1Soft introduced its new product, the CDP Server 3.0 Standard Edition at the cPanel Conference held last October 6 to 7. The conference was held at the Hilton Americas and was attended by industry leaders and clients.
R1Soft is a developer of Continuous Data Protection software. It specializes in providing high-performance and scalable products that are widely used in the data center industry. The company offers a line of products suited for both Linux and Windows server protection.
At the cPanel Conference, David Wartell, founder of R1Soft led a session that covered CDP Advancements. As part of the address, he demonstrated the many flexible features and components of CDP 3.0. These include file and folder excludes, Storing Disk-Based Backups Anywhere (i.e. Windows Shares, NAS, Cloud Storage, etc), on-disk journaling, user-friendly interfaces and reporting among others.
The CDP Server 3.0 Standard Edition is going to be the first release in the line of products under the R1Soft CDP 3.0 series. It is going to offer clients with high-performance CDP back-ups working off from a single server. With this product, there’s no need for users to use a dedicated linux server to secure their data.
Wartell also discussed the productivity-boosting and promising revenue implications of their new technology during his presentation at the cPanel conference. The new technology is expected to benefit clients particularly web hosts and businesses looking to expand their online presence.

According to a new report published by AMI Partners, annual spending on remote managed services by EMEA SMBs is touted to grow three times over the next five years. This, according to the study, translates to a compounded annual growth rate of 24 percent.
While this business sector has been experiencing an increased dependence on ICT, most of the SMBs are operating on a limited financial and internal IT resource, says Hugh Gibbs, VP for Research and Consulting at AMI. The economic crunch in various European markets over the past year has aggravated the trend that has been growing stronger over the past few years. There has been an increased prevalence of outsourced ICT asset management to third parties for a fixed monthly outlay among SMBs in EMEA.
EMEA SMBs using managed services in various areas is not an uncommon scenario as this has been going on for quite some time now. However, the study found that there has been a broadening as far as the usage of managed services is concerned, covering such types of assets as servers, storage, security, PC, applications, networking and communications.
Because of this, the industry is going through dramatic changes. Local channel partners are now changing and improving their business models to cover remote services. This allows them to reach to a broader market using fewer resources.
Channel partners who have moved to the remote service model are experiencing higher revenues per employee, says AMI senior analyst and the study’s chief architect. Using remote management allows service providers to provide improved services in terms of monitoring ICT assets for clients, she adds.

Bob Smith, a small landscape contractor, takes a good deal of care with his job estimates and quotations. This particular estimate, for a residential landscaping job, wasn’t too complicated, was competitively priced, and was accepted by the client. Work began on schedule, the weather held, and the project was completed on time. The only glitch was the need for a couple of extra skids of pavers from the supplier. Bob discussed it with the client, received the authorization and one of the trucks was sent to pick them up late in the day.
Bob’s daughter-in-law spent one day a week doing the company’s bookkeeping and processed the invoice to the client. Unfortunately for Bob’s company, the authorized change order for the pavers was still sitting on the dashboard of his truck, lost amongst other paperwork, and was never charged out to the project. Bob’s reasonable margin on the job was considerably decreased, if not eroded completely.
If this fictional scenario sounds familiar, you certainly wouldn’t be alone in recognizing Bob’s dilemma. This particular problem, or something similar, happens throughout the industry every day, much too often for comfort.
