The London on tap initiative was launched by Thames water at the beginning of 2008. Surely having access to drinkable water is a human right- we need it for survival- and we shouldn’t allow big corporations to bottle and package it and sell it back to the public. As part of the London on tap campaign, a competition was held whereby designers were asked to design a carafe for London which would then be used in restaurants and bars to dispense water to customers. From these designs emerged some very beautiful models, some made with coloured glass, others with various types of plastics. Presenting tap water in a beautiful vessel, gives it the status it deserves. The ancient Greeks and Romans believed that water held magical powers.
