Standing out at a Career Faire can make a difference in your search. Career Fairs are starting to pick up, and a major job search company is running some nice ones, called Targeted Job Fairs. At a SF Bay Area Career Fair in early 2010, 10 companies as showing up, and a major job search company has 82 career faires scheduled for 2010 across the US.
How do you compete at a Job Fair? The competition can be considerable, but you can help yourself surpass from the gang with early preparation. At AA-Careers, we have a straight-forward 6-step process to prepare. Planning to go? Here’s how to prepare:
First, investigate the organizations that are going and pick your targets. Use the internet to check out the organizations that are there beforehand. Go to their sites and see if they have their jobs posted. Pick a sensible number to go after, and get ready to spend an hour researching each one. It’s hard to do more than 9 in a day, and three or four is a much more reasonable target. For each hiring organization, you want to know: recent news, key product lines, and exectuve names. Try to see if you know anyone at the target companies. You’ll end up with a page or two of research for each company/job.
Second, if there are job postings on the web, read them to see what the organization is looking for. Create a mapping of your accomplishments and skills to the requirements of the job. Make the terminology match. If the hiring organization calls customers "clients", your resume should do the same thing. The achievements should be written in the style of the hiring company.
Third, create a ‘brief sales pitch’ for each potential company/job combination. Write down a 90 second ‘thumbnail’ that you can repeat verbally depicting why you are a key prospect for that position. You’ll use this in your resume and when you meet the company at the job booth.
Fourth, modify your resume for each position. The objective on your resume should exactly match the job you’re going after. The executive summary should be a written form of your “mini sales pitch” for the job. Then choose the achievements and skills that most clearly match the job prerequisites. Especially at a Job Faire, the purpose of your resume is a sales tool for you – to get you on-site job interviews. It should be a no-brainer to see that you’re a fit based on your resume.
Fifth, dress and prepare as if you’re doing on-site interviews. Dress nicely and be well groomed. Don’t overdress (this isn’t a date!) and don’t underdress (no jeans or t-shirts, no matter how much you paid for them). Avoid strong cologne or perfume.
Finally, rehearse your ‘mini-sales-pitch’. Collect your research and the resume for each opportunity - bring a couple of copies for each – and put each in a intelligibly labeled folder. Keep them in a lightweight briefcase or folio.
Remember to smile, and good hunting!

The concept of a short-sightedness or myopia refers to the situation if you can’t see far in to the distance. Of many of the people you know with spectacles, it is likely that most of them have this challenge
Essentially, the difficulty with this condition is that the eyeball is too lengthy to permit the light from a distant object to become focussed into view, quickly enough by the eye’s cornea and lens system. Therefore there is a blurry feel to the image specifically relayed onto the back of the retina. The eyeball is a little bit too long compared with the focusing power of the cornea and lens. This means light rays from objects in the distance are focused in front of the retina because they’ve been bent too much by the cornea and lens.
So, those that have short sightedness see things that are nearby without any difficulty. But if they are trying to look at something in the distance, they end up squinting to see the image more clearly. Often, the condition is first noticed in older children and young teenagers. Short sightedness can run in families, so short-sighted parents are more alert to the possibility of their children having sight difficulties.Actually the problem can even get better as an adult, as the muscles controlling the lens get weaker or stiffer Excessive study at school; faulty positions when reading and writing, bad light for work will all cause short-sight in after life.
You can correct the problem of the misplaced focal point by introducing another “correcting” lens in front of the eye - either as a set of spectacles or contact lenses

My hair loss treatment journey began the day I started to notice my receding hair line and my bald spot becoming bigger. I would spend hours and hours looking for ways to comb my hair a certain way to hide my hair loss. I began to wear more and more caps on the weekends as I went out with my wife, friends or family. Walking in to work every morning was an embarrassing experience without my hat on. Your mind will do that to you when you are going through hair loss. It is so true that you never know what you have until you lose it. That can be true about your hair loss.
Having suffered from balding, I began to treasure every strand of hair that I had left. It was as if with each strand of hair I lost, so was a small part of my self-confidence gone as well. A mate of mine had been suffering the same problem as me. Yet lately he appeared so much more relaxed and I noticed that it was as if his hair was growing back. I didn’t wanted to bring it up but after a while I decided to ask. That is when I was recommended to Advanced Hair Studio. My friend Josh told me that he had only had a few treatments and has already started to see some positive results, he not only regrown his hair, but his self-assurance as well. After speaking to Josh and understanding what Advanced Hair has done for him, I took the courage to make an appointment for a free consultation.
I have to admit that I was a little sceptical at first. But within a few weeks the outcomes were obvious. Not only on my head, but in my attitude. I started to lose the caps on the weekends and I quickly started to feel better about myself. My wife who has been unhappy about my lack of interest in our relationship began to notice the change in that department as well. It is amazing how just a few trips to the Advanced Hair Studio had begun to change my life as a whole. I have always been shy about people noticing my bald spot. Now, I am not terrified to look people in the eyes again as I have my full set of hair back.
Advance Hair Studio has not only given me back my hair, but a big part of my life as well. If you are suffering from hair loss I highly recommend them as it has done so much for me in just a few months of treatments. Don’t let baldness take your confidence away.

Your Prep
- Create an uptodate professionally typed CV tailored to the placement to leave with the interview panel.
- Have a colleague with a critical eye proof the CV.
- Create responses to broad interview questions about yourself (review your strengths and weaknesses).
- Acquire permission beforehand from individuals you designate to employ as reference.
- Learn about the area in which the position is located.
- Show an interest about the employer, what they do, their troubles and future plans (annual reports, organizational charts, policies and procedures, staff manual, and job description of the post being interviewed for).
Preparing a Good curriculum vitae
A resume is your sales pitch for the job screening out committee, and it must create a statement that expresses you and what you are. Since there is no standard way to prepare a resume, your curriculum vitae must be able to indicate what you can do for the company and show your overall groundwork for the placement. A resume should contain the following information but it does not have to be in the order given here:
- Your name, address, and telephone number(s).
- Employment objective. Indicate the class of job you are searching. The purpose should be relevant to the company you are seeking.
- Education: school name and location, graduation date or dates of attendance, degree obtained or highest grade completed.
- Experience: indicate job title, name and address of employer, dates of employment, and description of job responsibilities.
- Special skills possessed: computer skills, languages, laurels received, any achievement that is worth mentioning etc.
- Indicate availability of references (usually upon request).
Prepare for the Day of the Interview
- Dress properly for the post.
- Be professional but not prudish.
- Be clean. Look for missing buttons, dragging hems, soiled clothes, etc.
- Avoid noisy jewelry or “super trendy” fashion.
- Look refreshing and rested, involved and alive.
- Arrive promptly for your appointment.
- Take with you identification (social security card, drivers license).
Your Conduct During the Interview or the Selling Game
- Be constructive about your qualifications.
- Fend Off judgmental remarks about past posts or chiefs.
- Memorise the names of the interview panel members and their places in the organization.
- Suggest areas of the job to which you can apply preceding experience and training.
- Be creative in describing your skills and relating them to a new position.
Note that the employer requires answers to the following classic interview questions:
- Why are you here?
- What can you do for the employer (special skills, background)?
- How much would it cost to hire you?
The Curtain Call or Closing the Deal
Mail a follow-up letter thanking the interviewers for their time and interest in you. And Repeat your desire for the post and the organization.

“What’s the matter?” people ask. “Nothing,” we reply. So we remain quiet in our suffering, perhaps confused about what is going on inside, and unable to reach the depth of the feeling. If left unattended, “the matter” can lead to psychological, physical, and relational illness. It has been proven for some time that our state of mind can affect the body’s ability to resist illness and to heal.
Norman Cousins’ story provides a classic example of how dealing with emotions, attitude, and mental health can improve physical health. Editor of The Saturday Review,he wrote about how he fended off a life threatening disease and a massive coronary using unconventional nutritional and emotional therapies. The mental/emotional house needs cleaning just as homes and cars do. Seeing the results of years of negative beliefs and behavior, physicians realize that happy people seldom become sick.
John Bradshaw, a well-known counselor and public speaker from Houston, openly shares his own moments of frustration. When he was 40 years old and on a family vacation, he found himself in a fit of rage toward his wife and children. Confused by the intensity of emotion, he felt as though he had gone into an altered state of consciousness. Later he realized that he had stifled the rage since childhood and that this event triggered the unexpressed emotions that affected his behavior, and thus his relationships and physical health.
The good news is that it does not take years and years of psychotherapy to undo the damage. Expedient methods are available to desensitize and reprocess these experiences.
While at a training on such an intervention, I decided to address the sadness and guilt I had been carrying all week in regard to a phone call I needed to make to my mother. I did not want to call and the resistance was strong. In the process a huge burning sensation showed up in my eyes and with it a memory of her saying to me, “I always wanted you to have brown eyes.” (I have blue-green eyes.)
Though I ignored it at the time, it occurred to me at that moment that the statement was one more validation that I did not measure up to her expectations and I felt empty and worthless. The exercise let my brain reprocess the event and draw a new conclusion about her and about me. At the end of the day, not only did I call, but also wanted to call her, and felt a lightness and effervescence that transcended my spirit. The pain in my lower back went away the next morning and life was fresh again. It reminded me that my body and my feelings speak to me regularly and are calling attention to that which needs it. I did not attend to her remark so many years ago, and it sat there quietly creating a sense of lack and “not enoughness.” It is so nice to have it gone and to feel good about us both.
Brain and body research indicates that the heart has a brain that communicates with the head brain. From the esophagus through the intestines there is also a gut brain. Integrating information from these systems creates a powerful potential for healing. Other “dis-eases” can be alleviated or eliminated by attending to the belief systems created to cope with painful circumstances. Sometimes people gain weight to avoid reliving the loss of a relationship or a sexual molestation; sometimes people react angrily to present circumstances that don’t warrant rage; sometimes they feel threatened by present events that are not threatening but are perceived to be threatening. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, ADHD, fibromyalgia and other diagnoses have their origin in traumatic events that engaged the defense system to find ways to cope.
Using emotional intelligence, nurturing our souls and bodies, and laughing help. Freeing ourselves from physical, mental, and emotional toxins allows us to contribute more positively to all of our social circles. Sometimes we can make the changes ourselves. Sometimes we need the help of a professional. Change is feasible and achievable. Do you find all this difficult to swallow or even impossible? “One can’t believe impossible things,” said Alice of Alice in Wonderland. “I dare say you haven’t had much practice,” said the Queen. “Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”

Doesn’t it seem sometimes as though life is a constant struggle to get what you want? Your company has been operating in the red for 6 months, but your vendors want to raise their rates. Your wife has been pining for a new dining room set, but you’ve had your eye on a new four-wheeler and there’s not budget for both. You want your kids to finish their homework, yet they’re begging for another hour of Playstation2. End your struggles with 3 simple words: learn to negotiate. No matter what the issue, help is here! Reclaim your happiness: follow these guidelines:
1. Ask the right questions.
The right questions can help you control the negotiating process. Questions which go unasked or unanswered limit your options to what is already known. Planning your questions should be part of your homework. (”So tell me again Honey: exactly how much did you spend on clothing last month?”) Do not answer your own questions.
2. It is okay to disclose certain information.
Information should be offered on a “need to know” basis with both sides making equal concessions. Usually a brief pause in conversation from the other side is an ideal time to make a startling revelation. (”Okay, if you really must know… I’m having a mid-life crisis.”)
3. Listen more often than you speak.
The entire negotiation process centers around this skill. Careful listening avoids misunderstanding. Also remember to listen for what is not said, whether by your mother-in-law or your landlord.
4. Keep your cool.
Negotiating can sometimes be perceived as threatening, and the individuals involved can become very emotional (like teenagers, trying to bargain for another hour past curfew.) Don’t lose control. Ask questions and provide answers in a calm, respectful manner- no matter how piercing the other party’s shrieks become.
