Cheryl Cole spectacularly wrong footed doubters who criticised her for miming parts of her X Factor appearance - by shooting to the top of the charts.
The Geordie lass has sold 292,846 copies of Fight For This Love, making it the biggest-selling single of the year so far.
Overjoyed Cheryl - who shot to fame as part of the pop group Girls Aloud - said: “I’m just getting over the fact I have recorded my solo record and now it’s number one.
“I can’t take this all in. It’s hard for me to put into words how I feel.
“I have this permanent smile on my face.”
The smile still hadn’t left the talent show judge’s face when she made a triumphant appearance on the programme on Sunday night, wearing a racy low-cut snake-print mini dress.
N-Dubz have labelled US rapper Flo Rida a “plonker” after he shunned them at a recent meeting.
The trio, who release new album Against All Odds on November 16, claimed that they were ignored when they tried to congratulate him on his success.
“He is a plonker. The only reason that he’s a plonker is because we said hello to him and he just had no time for us. Fazer tried to shake his hand and Flo Rida just ignored him. Flo Rida, you are a plonker,” Dappy told Loaded.Fazer added: “I just said to him, ‘Congratulations blud’, but he just walked straight past me.”The group, who recently worked with Gary Barlow on a new song, added that they are eager to work with Lady GaGa.

Given the fact that illegal file sharing in the cyber world is widespread today, the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) categorically stated that it is the responsibility of all service providers to ensure that their service is not being used for any illegal activity, and to punish such wrong actions. This comment comes as a response to the recent findings that revealed British Telecom’s lackadaisical approach towards illegal downloading and file sharing.
According to recent information obtained with regard to internet usage that involves gathering the IP addresses of users engaged in unlawful downloading, service provider BT is allowing nearly 100,000 users to download files illegally using its network and is doing nothing to stop the practice. Geoff Taylor, chief executive of BPI, stated that by allowing so many users to freely misuse the internet for illegal downloads, BT is indirectly encouraging the breaking of rules instead of showing commitment towards upholding the rules.
When contacted, a BT spokesperson clarified that the allegations were not true as not all peer-to-peer applications were used for illegal activity, especially given the fact that people often use such applications for playing online games like World of Warcraft. Moreover, he warned that tracking such illegal downloads would be seen as infringement on the privacy of the users.
While explaining Your Money Government, a BT spokesperson has stated recently that the cost of checking online piracy would mean an additional £24 every year being billed to the customer.

This girl is just amazing! She was born in Yonkers, New York to Italian Americans Joseph Germanotta, an internet entrepreneur, and his wife Cynthia. As a child, Gaga attended the private Catholic school Convent of the Sacred Heart. As a little girl, she would sing along on her plastic tape recorder to Michael Jackson and Cyndi Lauper hits and get twirled in the air in daddy’s arms to the sounds of the Rolling Stones and the Beatles.

The British Invasion is used to describe rock and roll, beat and pop performers from the United Kingdom who became popular in the United States from 1964 to 1966. The Second British Invasion refers to MTV and New Wave acts of the 1980s. In the latter half of the 2000s the term would be used to describe the critical and popular success of mostly female acts at first and then British acts in general.
The rebellious tone and image of American rock and roll and blues musicians became popular with British youth in the late 1950s. Early attempts to replicate American Rock and Roll failed. The skiffle craze with its “Do-it-yourself” attitude was imitated by several British acts that would later be part of the “invasion”. Young British groups started to combine various British and American styles. This coalesced in Liverpool during 1962 in what became known as the “beat boom” for its Merseybeat sound.
On December 10, 1963 the CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite ran a story about the Beatlemania phenomenon in the United Kingdom. After seeing the report, 15 year old Marsha Albert of Silver Spring, Maryland wrote a letter the following day to disc jockey Carroll James at radio station WWDC asking “why can’t we have music like that here in America?”. On December 17 James had Albert introduce I Want to Hold Your Hand live on the air, the first airing of a Beatles song in the United States. WWDC’s phones lit up and Washington, D.C. area record stores were flooded with requests for a record they did not have in stock. On December 26 Capitol Records released the record three weeks ahead of schedule.
The release of the record during a time when teenagers were on vacation helped spread Beatlemania in America. On January 18, 1964 I Want To Hold Your Hand reached number one on the Cash Box chart, the following week it did the same on Billboard. On February 7 The CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite ran a story about The Beatles’ United States arrival that afternoon in which the correspondent said “The British Invasion this time goes by the code name Beatlemania”. Two days later (Sunday, February 9) they appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show. Seventy five percent of Americans watching television that night viewed their appearance. On April 4 the Beatles held the top 5 positions on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, the only time to date that any act has accomplished this. The group’s massive chart success continued until they broke up in 1970.

Are there really secrets to becoming a really good piano player? Or is it just a matter of practice, practice, practice?
Practice is necessary, of course, but you could practice until the cows come home without understanding what you’re doing at the piano, and all you would end up with is fingers that behave obediently to whatever the sheet music or score tells them to do.
Understanding how music works in terms of form and content is the key to productive practice. Then you are not just playing mechanically by rote like a machine, but you can get “inside” the music and eventually let it flow out of your brain and heart as well as your hands.
“There are at least 33 elements that contribute to becoming a good pianist,” says Duane Shinn, pianist and owner of Keyboard Workshop in Medford, Oregon. “There are probably more, but without these 33 principles a pianist cannot hope to rise to the level of his ability.”
So yes - there really are secrets to becoming the piano player of your dreams. It’s not that anyone is purposefully trying to keep a secret from you, but it’s a rare teacher who has the ability to not only play well but to be able to explain music theory - chords, melody, rhythm, dynamics, and all the other elements that contribute to playing the piano well and with feeling.
In our piano teaching studio at Piano University we have identified 33 distinct skill that must be developed if a person wants to play up to the limit of her or his potential. Here they are:
1 - Hand & Body Position — Should you look down at your hands? How to use “eye flips”
2 - The key to productive practice — Spaced repetition
3 - Attitude — how it affects your learning
4 - How & when to pedal. Using explosive dynamics
5 - Exposure: why it’s critically important
6 - Ear Training — Intervals from 2nds to 13ths
7 - Fingering — which finger do you use when?
8 - Chord substitutions that create fantastic sounds
9 - Chord recognition — how to recognize what chord is being used
10 - Musical vocabulary: tempo words, form words
11- Arranging: how is your “bag of tricks” coming along? “Head arrangements”
12 - Melodic sense: how does the melody relate to the chords?
13 - Sight-reading: 7 fundamentals you just cannot ignore
14 - Key orientation: Can you think in the key you’re playing in?
15 - Scanning the score before you start playing
16 - Mental practice — how to learn music in bed
17 - Repertoire: Why you need one to be prepared for any opportunity
18 - Goal setting: How good can you get? Is there a limit?
19 - Rhythm awareness — samba, bossa nova, bolero, etc.
20 - Why knowing music history is important to you
21 - Idea stealing — how and where & from who
22 - 12-bar blues; creating a motif; “blue notes”
23 - Extended chords: 6th, 7th, 9th, 11th, 13th, suspensions
24 - Technique acquisition: rubber balls, fingering drills
25 - Harmonization: Using I, IV & V to harmonize
26 - Key identification: Recognizing key signatures
27 - Voicing: Open, closed, registers, color tones
28 - Improvisation: Making music right out of your head
29 - Harmony & theory: How much should you know?
30 - Stylistic devices: Western, boogie, jazz, etc.
31 - Analysis: How to understand what you’re hearing
32 - Riffs & runs & fills: How to develop them
33 - Cross-pollination: The best of all worlds!
While reading music is important, the individual who develops these 33 basic skills will be light years ahead of the person who simply plays sheet music the way it is written. There is no longer any reason to be “tied to the written music” when you can master these techniques that allow you to play from the heart.

Because of the many benefits of piano lessons for young children, parents don’t want to wait too long before enrolling their kids in piano. They do want to be sure, however, that their young child is old enough to benefit from formal musical training. Fortunately, making this decision is a straightforward process.
Because playing piano is an inter-play of left and right brain activity some basic language and math skills are very helpful. Your child will need to know all of these to succeed in school as well as to begin piano. And in turn learning to play the piano will improve your child’s overall educational achievement in school. Below are five things kids need to know to begin piano lessons and some resources parents can use at home to prepare young children for lessons.
1. Knows the alphabet (music alphabet is the first seven letters.)
Knowing the alphabet is important because it is foundational to music theory. Notes, sounds, and the piano keys are identified by their letter names.
2. Identifies and counts numbers 1 to 10.
Knowing their numbers is necessary to learn note values as well as for fingering. For example, “Play this note with finger number 2.”
3. Knows opposites - up and down; right and left; high sounds and low sounds.
Opposites give necessary perspective to important musical concepts.
4. Likes to play one key on the piano at a time, and listens to the sound each makes.
If your child is attracted to the piano, and out of curiosity enjoys playing the keys one at a time to hear their sounds, and likes to experiment a little, they are ready for piano. If your child, however, simply runs to the piano and starts banging on the keys with their fists, they are probably not quite ready to be a thoughtful piano student.
5. Is beginning to read.
Music always tells a story, so being able to read and sing the fun stories that often go along with beginning piano music is very helpful for young children. This develops the ear and gives context and meaning to each piece of music. This is what makes piano fun for kids.
